The Evacuees

I saw this clown on FoxNews emoting live—unfortunately—exemplifying everything I said here and here about able-bodied men expecting others to be the man in their place.

[Bob] Sellers: Could you ask him what he wants? What is he looking for?

[Alicia] Acuna: Sure, hold on one second.

The anchor in New York would like to know--his name is Bob--he would like to know what it is that you would like to happen. What do you want?

Man: What I would like to happen? I would like for them to give us at least $20,000 apiece so we can, you know, get our life together. You know, we didn't ask to come on that bus, slave. It's like a slave ship. It's just like, you know, back in history, you know, they put us on a slave ship. They separated us from our family. They did it--you know, just modern-day slavery, you know? Just give us what the f--- we deserve.

Read the entire transcript and/or watch the video.

You've heard of people expressing the desire to do damage to their TV when remarkable stupidity/cravenness/venality is displayed. Well, I finally had that impulse. (No, I didn't act upon it.)

There’s so much dreck in the whole last statement, it’s pointless to fisk it—it’s self-fisking. Many stories are emerging from other sources, however; stories of good men and women in bad situations and of bad men—in other words, stories of real people. I concede that they aren’t all stories of irresponsible men. (Those losers aren’t off the hook, however. Apparently I’m not the only one who noticed all those man-less women with children among the evacuees.)

From an email I received:

Two of our small [state omitted] towns have accepted 175 refugees from the hurricane. They are to stay at a local {organization omitted]. Rumor, not substantiated by official comment but by someone who was there, is that three were arrested before they got off the busses. Apparently some of the others reported to nurses on the bus that they were criminals or troublemakers and the nurses called ahead for the Sheriff to meet them. Once those three were arrested the other refugees were visibly relieved. This is being kept quiet but I know someone who was there.

It was heart breaking to hear their stories on the local TV. One man needed only one more years work to retire, one was a chemical factory worker (hired instantly by a local factory), one worked for the city, I believe one was a merchant, you get the idea. This is the opposite of what the MSM is telling. These are not poor, black, poverty stricken, non working, welfare expecting people. These are black Americans who consider themselves working middle class and who by natural disaster have lost all they have spent their lives working for. They arrived at 1am Sunday morning and some went to work this week. One man cried on camera in shame of not being able to take care of his family and having to accept charity. He also cried when he showed three handwritten pages of phone numbers and job offers he had received in a couple of days.

Why don’t the MSM—even FoxNews—stick microphones under such people? Because gratitude is boring and pontification about being a slave engenders outrage--and ratings.

(Thanks to James Taranto, who will catch a lot of unwarranted flak for that white woman remark.)

Comments

I am the head of "Outreach" (i.e., offerings to be sent out beyond the church) for my congregation. We are a SMALL (<100 members on the books, about half that active) congregation with mostly retired folks or folks who would be considered "working class"

we took up a donation to go to our denomination's "help" fund. We took in close to $1800 in two weeks.

it makes me kind of sick, to think of all the good folks in my congregation, some of them probably giving up some of the little comforts or joys of their daily life to give, and then hear this blatant ingratitude and "gimme gimme gimme" on the part of the "clown" who thinks that the evacuations are a "new slavery" and who is demanding $20 K to "get his life back on track."

it just makes me very tired. Tired of people.

(Oh, I know, most people are NOT like him, and I tell myself that the money we collected will go to some nice folks who will be grateful for it and will use it to take care of their children or something like that. But still...I think the fastest way to make the average American close his or her wallet is to keep showing goons like that guy demanding "their fair share" and showing no recognition of the fact that most people are doing what they can to help.)

It would be interesting to give that clown $20,000, then come back in two years to see what he's made of his life. My prediction is that he'd be just about where he was a month ago.

I'm so glad that I wasn't the only one wanting to reach through the TV and smack that guy upside the head. It is very tiresome when able bodied young people think that they should be taken care of instead of taking responsibility for themselves.

Luckily my mood was changed about 10 minutes later when they (Fox) had an update on donations from other countries and Sullivan (I don't know his first name or who he is with) got a little choked up as he told how an older lady in Lithuania had sent them her life's savings (1,000 Euros) because of all the things that America had done for her.

I can relate to your I had a headache post.

You left me thinking for days on the issue of where are the Fathers. I tried to answer it but in the end it becomes the lack of moral and personal responsibility of some people.

It doesn't matter race color or creed. Some things are universal. Love of your own flesh and blood should be number one.

Uh ok. How about we find this young, able-bodied man some work then? Ya know. He lost everything and is at ground zero so... Let's put the fella to work. Don't give him any start, since, well, he has nothing.

Yuck!

However my mini-rant doesn't excuse men leaving their women with children.

T-Steel, No one was saying that he shouldn't be helped to get back on his feet, it was just that this guy spoke as though he was entitled to $20,000 cash because of what happened with the evacuation.

I'm sure it has been hell on earth and he is really frustrated, but there is never a good reason to trash talk people who are just trying to help.

Reminds me of the In Living
Color/Saturday Night Live (can't remember which show it was) sketch where the reporter ignores the educated black professional in favour of interviewing the ghetto hood rat. Funny as all get out but depressingly true at times.

Man: What I would like to happen? I would like for them to give us at least $20,000 apiece so we can, you know, get our life together.

Maybe he could use that money to buy himself a pair of testicles.

I saw that too. They let him rant and only cut him off when he dropped the F-bomb.

Somehow I don't believe that if he had been allowed to keep going that he would have asked for a job.

Sometimes you just gotta wonder...

Ricki touched on something with this:

"it makes me kind of sick, to think of all the good folks in my congregation, some of them probably giving up some of the little comforts or joys of their daily life to give, and then hear this blatant ingratitude and "gimme gimme gimme" on the part of the "clown" who thinks that the evacuations are a "new slavery" and who is demanding $20 K to "get his life back on track.""

{tin foil hat=on} Is it even the slightest bit possible that this is EXACTLY the reason that the MSM shows these slobs?

Think about it... You show the worst of the worst, the sickest, most perverted SOBs you can find. Then your average big-hearted American gets disgusted and stops donating to charities, assuming that their money will only be wasted by an entitlement "GIMME".

Who has to step in to fill the void? That's right, the government... Good ol' Uncle Sugar, with bottomless bags of our tax money...

{tin foil hat=off}

I'm so stupid, that I used the n-word on a black person's blog.

At least I left my email for the hostess to use, but it's probably more due to my low IQ than it is to any bravery I possess.

After all, it doesn't take any testicles--figurative or literal--to spew insults on a blog.

I dunno that the interviewer had any idea what this idiot was going to say. There is also the possibility that the interviewee changed his tune when he got on the air. Happens all the time with call-in talk shows where they prescreen the callers for subject matter. Bozo gets on and it's a whole different spiel from what they told the producer/screener.

Taranto followed up the next day that the reason he used the remark about the black man with his arm around the white woman remark was to stress how far we had come from slavery that a black man was able to have his arm around a white woman.

Denny,

You know that and I know that, but the people who would make a big deal about the remark either don't know that or would choose to ignore it just to make a stink.

Personally, I thought it was funny.

If a man is able-bodied, he can WORK his way out of whatever crap comes his way. I've done it TWICE in my life, with no help from government.

That "gimme $20,000" prick should be able to do the same thing. He just needs to stop whining and find a job.

Also--- I am not responsible for what Catfish posts in your comments. He's his own man and he always has been. Where do you think he got his name?

Big mouth, and full of shit.

He is what he is, and I consider him to be a friend.

Yes lady, you don't know me well enough to make statements like the one you posted above. I do know the difference between black and nigger, I know both kinds. I also worked with Rob for 27 years in a big chemical plant and the workers there we 75% black and yes, most of them were black and some of my best friends are black, so watch your mouth young lady, Cat

Unless you start paying for my blog fees, I will watch nothing. Additionally, I am not your child and am probably not young enough to be your child. And age does not give you the right to come on another’s property and spew unthinking insults and expect no consequences.

Baldilocks I don't think Cat meant to insult you. He's a little backwoods hick, but he's really a sweetie.
