Shhh! She's Straight!
Hold on to your hats. Being happily married, having children and a good job is now offensive. If you talk about it in public, that is.
Actress Jada Pinkett Smith is under fire for a speech she made at Harvard University that was overly "heteronormative" and made gay students feel uncomfortable by not sufficiently addressing their status, reports The Crimson. No perspectives outside of the politically correct one are allowed at Harvard. Just ask its president.Organizers of the Cultural Rhythms show are apologizing for the offense caused by the wife of actor Will Smith (search). In the speech, she was said to be giving the story of her life "and her perspective was a heterosexual perspective.
"She wasn't trying to be offensive. But some felt she was taking a narrow view, and some people felt left out," the apology reads.Left out of the couples’ marriage? Are they feeling insulted because they are sure that Jada and Will would absolutely refuse to invite them over for a threesome?
Not being a lesbian, a bisexual or a sociologist, how is Pinkett Smith supposed to discuss such relationships with any amount of knowledge? She’s an actress, for Heaven’s Sake and, for a pleasant change of pace, was talking about something on which she *has* done some research.
(Somehow, I suspect that if Elton John arrived at Harvard to discuss wonders of long-term heterosexual marriage, this group would have naught to say.)
Members of the Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, and Supporters Alliance (BGLTSA) said Pinkett Smith's comments implied that standard sexual relationships are only between males and females.Maybe they’re upset because they suspect that if one of the girls hit on lovely Jada, that she’d probably say no politely while trying to hold down her breakfast.
If the overwhelming majority of a group is heterosexual, then that is the norm. Anything else is *abnormal.* Not crazy, not worthy of being thrown into re-education camps, just abnormal, without the baggage that the word implies. (Note: left-handed people, like yours truly, are also abnormal.) Additionally, Ms. Pinkett Smith did say she was speaking from her *own* perspective.
Between this incident, female *scientists* having lady-like fainting spells over Larry Summers’ remarks and on-going PEST symptoms, the campus shrinks and pharmacists must be working overtime handing out little pink pills.

Baldilocks,
You're too funny! I agree with your assessment: would the audience have been offended if Jada had started rattling off opinions about things she has no special knowledge of but using her celebrity as a perverted form of credibility... no, wait... I'm talking about every OTHER celebrity in Hollywood! My bad, Jada... you're the best!

Nice post Baldilocks. The only disagreement I can find with your article is the conditions for the abnormality of homosexuality. Even if 3/4ths of the human race were homosexuals, heterosexuality would be the normal. Heterosexuality is normal because the whole biological purpose of sex and sexual relationship is to produce and raise children. Not a big deal though.

I'd say that they got that right. Anything else is non standard.
They can do what they like, I don't care as long as it's consenting adults, but don't try to tell me that it's a "standard" relationship.
We seem to have reached a point where hetrosexuality is becoming something to be ashamed of!?!?!? Gimme a %*#@*%* break.

Now just think about this for a moment. This is Harvard, that is again, HARVARD. It was just a few years ago that Harvard still had a certain aura for me. Now it has got a certain smell. After the Larry and Jada incidents I realize that Harvard needs to be rescued from this little submarine they are locked in, to quit breathing their own air, open the hatch and get some new air and sunshine.
From our clergy to our professors they've gone more than a little weird on us. They need to really start working for a living to add a little intestinal fiber to their lives.

BGLTSA....wow...that just rolls off the tongue. Let's see:

It's starting to sound like a modern day Sodom. Next, they will be demanding that their speakers all have sex with them so no one will feel excluded.

Her speech 'implies'?
IMPLIES?
Well, then, let's be clear and EXPLICIT about the normalcy of heterosexual relationships, AND the exclusive reality of that normalcy. Homosexual relationships are NOT the norm, nor do they result in pregnancy, nor do they constitute a valid means of spiritual development.
Clear enough?

KBiel,
Next? I guess you haven't heard of Oberlin College in Ohio. That has already begun.
