The BBC asks this question of Americans who voted for President. Bush: why? Here’s what I wrote.
Among several other reasons, I voted for George W. Bush to send a message to those who would like to see Western Civilization fall under the Islamic boot, as Islamist terrorist would prefer (yes, United Kingdom, you are on this hit-list as well): we will not go gently into that particular goodnight.
I wanted to help elect an American leader that will defend liberty; not just in word, like GWB's predecessor, but in deed.
I watch what's happening in Sudan and find it instructive. Black people (like me) are being exterminated like flies, Muslim or otherwise.
When I think of 9/11, I know that, horrific as it was, it's the best that the Islamists could manage. If they had their way as they do in Sudan, my beloved male family members would be dead or castrated slaves and I and the beloved female members of my family would be brutally raped in the hopes of producing a new crop of Muslims: conversion by the sword or the reproduction. No, thanks.
My answer may seem harsh but the terrorists have brought harsh reality into our collective world. President Bush may not be using the blunt words that I have, but, to repeat myself, it's the deeds that count.
Go and have your say.
(Thanks to Glenn Reynolds)

Was going to post my reasons to the BBC, but they had already been better expressed by the many posts already there. Makes a fella (and gal) proud!

It's none of their business why I voted for Bush!:-P

I could have typed for hours, but as Allan said, most reasons were already up there. I had to say something anyway. Here's what I sent:
"I could never have voted for Kerry. His actions after the Vietnam war were enough to lose my vote, but to then turn around and claim to be a war hero just screamed out "Hey folks, you're too stupid to care about the facts! Just listen, and follow." Not this non-com, Johnny boy."
Heh

Here's what the BBC asked:
"What convinced you to re-elect Bush? What are your hopes for his second term? Send us your comments using the post form."
My understanding was that if the first question applied to the reader they should continue on and answer the second question as well.
Every other comment published was by someone who detests the fact Bush was reelected and is horrified by the prospects. BBC is socialist trash that can't even construct or moderate a simple survey.

That is awesome. Way to go!

Upon reading further along in the EXCELLENT comments it appears that those few negative replies were front loaded or just recieved and published first. I'm not as outraged now but still not calm, those negative comments should have never seen the light of day.

I couldn't possibly distill all the reasons I voted for Bush into a short answer. There are so many different ways in which John Kerry was the completely inferior choice...
Perhaps the single greatest reason I gave my vote to Bush is simply that he is NOT a Traitor -- and Kerry IS.
My father served in Vietnam, and although I was only a child at the time, I *remember* when he did so. I remember when he came back, too -- and I remember when Kerry and the vermin like him were testifying their lies before Congress. I remember how angry my father was, how he called those people "goddamned lying traitors." (At 4 or so, it was my first encounter with the word "traitor.")
I remember the time quite clearly; and it was in my head when I punched that little hole next to "BUSH."
It gives me a great deal of satisfaction to say I cast my vote here in OHIO. To Kerry: Eat that, Traitor!

I had many reasons, but the one which is most important to the BBC and their audience is that Kerry told us that the rest of the world would like us better if we elected him. If the two candidates were identical on every other issue that alone would have been enough to sway me.

Subject: my letter to the UK Mirror
Dear Journalists of the British Left:
Please understand that a strong, proud, and free
America that believes in itself with no apologies will
have none of what you are serving. While you surrender
your land and culture to foreigners in a way unseen
since 1066, rest assured that the United States of
America will continue to preserve and promote the
cultural inheritance of the West in general and the
Enlightement in particular.
The benefit to you, my dear British Leftists, is that a
century from now we will still be here maintaining
the liberal traditions of democracy and religious pluralism
and freedom of speech, all guarded by a strong military
manned by volunteer citizen-soldiers. We will be here
with open arms when your granddaughters decide they
no longer wish to wear burqhas and your grandsons wish
to shave their council-mandated beards. A one-way ticket
from Sheikh Omar Bakri Airport in London to Ronald Reagan
International Airport in Washington, D.C. will do them nicely.

Jeffrey: Ouch! I'd love to see the BBC post that one.
