Just visited the democratic underground you mentioned. As expected, most of the posts dismiss the visit as grandstanding like they did the carrier landing. Some want to believe it was in reaction to HC's visit to Afghanistan, even though the planning had to start way before she announced she'd be going there. Others say it took troops away from their Thanksgiving dinner to increase security levels. But in one post (already locked out), the poster says he's despondent, realizing President Bush's poll strength vs. any of the Dem candidates just got a lot stronger. The others will see this also when the next polls come out. They'll dismiss it as ignorant, gullable Americans, no doubt. You'd think they could at least give credit for a political touchdown, regardless of what they believe is the motivation. But, only a few there are.

BTW, I visit your site at least once a day. Good stuff!

Here's what the always-reliable New York Times had to say concerning the secrecy of Bush's trip:

But Philip Taubman, Washington bureau chief of the New York Times, said that "in this day and age, there should have been a way to take more reporters. People are perfectly capable of maintaining a confidence for security reasons. It's a bad precedent."
Reporters? -- "perfectly capable of maintaining confidence for security reasons"?
