And this mystery "A"-name of which you speak would be...? :-)

This is exactly what I've been talking about. Ever since I moved to the south, I can't convince people that I'm not Jewish (my name ends in "berg").

Dang, Paul, you're nosy!

Akinyi

Hey, you had to figure that someone was bound to ask... :-)

Nice name, by the way. :-)

One of the reasons I comment nicknonymously is that my True Name has relatively little significance to me. My father changed his name when he entered the workforce during the Depression in order to sound less Jewish, and the one he took is common enough that I I know of several people, including one second-tier celebrity, with my name.

My mother, by the way, had also changed her name. With the -ovski dropped, she hoped to be taken for French.

Next time someone questions your name, tell them you're Irish, and the correct spelling is O'Chieng.

Say, are you still in contact with family back in Kenya?

Kenya doesn't get much press but still more than most African nations.

At least the media did cover the recent peaceful, orderly transfer of power in a democratic election.

Do you feel that Kenya could become Africa's "success story"?

Is the United States doing enough to support the elected government in Kenya and to help it progress toward a free-market system with rule of law?

If not, do you feel that we are missing out on a unique chance to help a "showcase country" emerge that could be seen as a positive example for other African nations?

Don't hesitate to tell me if my questions are stupid.
